Why You should Join
Here at Massasoit we believe the best way to learn science is to get hands-on experience. And that is why we created our STEM internship program where you can create and answer scientific questions about our local pollinators, learn to use lab equipment, and also design and conduct experiments.
As part of our STEM program we run a Journal Club where almost every week a STEM intern chooses a scientific paper that we all read and discuss. This is a skill we will use often in our future lives a scientists and in today's age of misinformation knowing how to read scientific papers for ourselves and think critically about them is key to being informed.
Our program mentors have experience in education but also in research and industry, putting them in the perfect position to provide you guidance about your future. They are happy to provide advice ranging from what classes to take, colleges to transfer to or even about your career after college.
The internship isn't all work and no play. By working together with each other in the STEM internship you can create friendships that make your college experience more fun and also motivate you to keep trying your best even when school gets frustrating.
Not only is the coaching and journal club free, if you join the internship you can get paid, so your first job in science can happen before you even get your degree. The Internship is a big time commitment but by paying our interns we help make this experience accessible to more students.
