STEM Success Program

As part of the STEM internship, student interns benefit from the STEM Success Program facilitated by Amber Oguma, STEM Coach and Analyst. The STEM Success Program provides one-to-one advising on course selection and degree completion with Amber Oguma, as well as frequent mentoring meetings with Dr. Michael Bankson. Students in the STEM Success Program connect with one another through internship activities and often share the same classes and study groups, enriching their academic experience. To learn more about the STEM Success Program and how you can participate, email Amber Oguma at [email protected].
Supplemental Instruction
Supplemental Instruction (SI) has been offered to all Massasoit students enrolled in math and physics courses. Unlike traditional tutoring, SI is a proactive academic support that focuses on strengthening students’ understanding of course material by helping them develop effective study strategies that promote confidence and competence through critical thinking. As a result, these strategies help improve their performance not only in their current course but also in their other courses.
Sessions focus on guiding students to become actively engaged in their own learning process, developing effective mathematical writing skills, and on identifying gaps in foundational knowledge that may hinder their understanding of current course topics. In addition, graded examinations are reviewed during SI sessions to help students analyze their performance, identify recurring errors, and implement strategies to avoid repeating the same mistakes in future assessments.
Supplemental Instruction sessions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30 — 4:00pm, at the Lecture Hall of the Science building (Room S 538), Brockton Campus.
